The Mavic Cosmic SLR 40 Carbon Wheelset – Light, strong, tubeless compatible
The Cosmic SLR 40 wheelset from Mavic is based on 19 mm wide and 40 mm high carbon rims optimised for rim brakes and presents itself as an extra-light, fast and strong all-rounder for all riding and racing situations. Tubeless compatibility opens up further advantages such as more puncture resistance, less rolling resistance and weight savings. Quick-release hubs with self-adjusting bearings and optimised spoke holes are used, with 18 double butted straight pull spokes at the front and 20 at the rear. Due to a special rim bed technology, tubeless rim tape is not necessary.

iTgMAX stands for Integral Glass Transition Temperature and refers to an inner rim bed that has been finished with multiple seamless layers of carbon fibre to achieve a unique one-piece rim shape without having to cut away fibres. The brake track is given a lasered finish to guarantee optimum braking efficiency. The result is consistent, efficient braking and a 50% reduction in deceleration time in wet conditions. iTgMAX rims are Mavic’s toughest carbon rims, designed to withstand the hardest use by the most vigorous riders in the worst conditions.
Infinity Hub Design
Infinity hubs from Mavic allow contactless lacing, which prevents noise development under load. At the same time, this design is lighter, stiffer and easier to maintain. Often you only need one spoke length per wheel set, so that an optimal spare parts supply is given.
QRM Auto
QRM Auto stands for Qualité de Roulements Mavic Auto, and is the latest bearing innovation from Mavic. These cartridge bearings with C3 internal clearance are double sealed. Their bearing clearance is automatically adjusted to guarantee smooth running without any play at all times.
Instant Drive 360
The Instant Drive 360 freehub system is super light and ensures a fast power connection with an engagement angle of only 9° (road) or 15° (MTB). A large, non-contact rubber seal reduces friction.
Isopulse (Rear)
This special lacing (right radial, left double-crossed) increases the stability of the wheels and ensures optimal power transmission – thanks to more even spoke tension on the left and right hub flange. Isopulse means higher stiffness under heavy load, resulting in immediate power transmission. Also, sturdier wheels have lower maintenance requirements.
Fore Carbon Tapeless Tubeless
Instead of a rim hole, a metal threaded insert is wrapped in the carbon layers of the lower rim base, into which the spoke nipple can be screwed directly. The outer rim base remains intact, so no rim tape is required for sealing.
